Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller is promoting efforts and a new law to combat identity theft.

He wants consumers to know that since January, residents have been able to go to the attorney general's office Web site and sign up to prevent anyone from fraudulently obtaining credit in their name.

If the consumer wants to apply for a new line of credit, they can go back to the Web site and temporarily lift the freeze. They previously had to send in a request for a security freeze by mail.
