State officials use data from the census to anticipate the healthcare needs of Hoosiers. The census data is also used to determine how much funding hospitals will get for cutting-edge medical research.

Tuesday at Wishard doctors explained how important accurate census numbers are for all of Indiana's residents, including the very youngest.

"As a pediatric nurse I would like to see that Indiana children have as many resources as possible for their health and well-being," explained Wishard pediatric nurse Courtney Scroggins. "We need to make sure that every child is accounted for."

Among other uses, census data is used to get federal money for children's vaccinations and the H1-N1 vaccinations.
