IU police are investigating a possible sexual assault on campus

UPDATE: A student has been arrested for an alleged sex assault on IU's campus. 19-year-old Hai Yu was taken into custody Friday afternoon at Indianapolis International Airport.

The victim was discovered outside a dorm early Thursday morning partially clothed and unconscious. Police say she also smelled of alcohol. She was taken to the hospital, suffering from cuts and bruises.

It's not yet clear where the alleged assault took place.

Indiana University Police are investigating a sexual assault after a student was found unconscious outside of a dorm. The woman was discovered around 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning in front of the Foster McGee dorm near Fee Lane.

"I actually got back at 3 a.m. and I heard that night that something happened," said freshman Mike Smith, who lives in the dormitory.

The woman was found lying on the ground, half-naked and unconscious. Some people walking by spotted the woman and immediately called police.

"She appeared to have bruises and abrasions on her and she was unconscious and unresponsive," said Lt. Craig Monroe of the Indiana University Police Department.

The student was transported to Bloomington Hospital where she told police she had been sexually assaulted. Police say the woman did not live at the dorm where she was found, but residents who do live there tell Fox59 News that officers questioned several men.

"A kid on our floor, they came up and bagged up a bunch of his clothes and they left," freshman Nick Vaughan recalled.

"They searched three rooms on my floor trying to find rufilin. They couldn't," Smith added.

The assault has left many students in the Foster McGee dorm on edge.

"I'm a pretty cautious person already but that will definitely be something I'll be thinking about," said freshman Mary Welton.

Many students are questioning how safe they are among their neighbors.

"It's very surprising. I know a lot of the people in this building and they're pretty trustworthy," Vaughan said.

Police say they have a person of interest in this case, but are continuing to question others. Anyone with information should call the IU Police Department at (812) 855-4111.
