John Davis sensed something was not right when he walked into his neighborhood convenient store, McClure’s, in Elwood, Ind.
“The cashier said we were being robbed and I saw three guys walking towards me with things in their hands,” said Davis.
Davis is a card-carrying gun owner and had his Smith & Wesson in his holster.
“I pulled out my gun, I ordered the guys not to move,” said Davis. “I tried to sound authoritative, like on TV, and kept saying don’t move.”
Two of the men looked terrified, but one of the three suspects was not going down without a fight.
“One of the guys charged me,” said Davis. “He came right toward me and I hit him with my gun.”
Davis said the suspect tried punching him until police arrived.
Jeremy Morris, 18, suffered injuries during the scuffle so he had to be taken to the hospital.
Morris and Tigh Conley, 20, were booked into the Madison County Jail.
Police continue to search for a third suspect who fled the scene. He was identified as Josh Purnell.
Not many men would do what Davis did that night, but he does not feel like a hero one bit.
“I was very scared, I’m not like that,” said Davis. “I have five kids, including a new baby at home, but I care about my town.”

@homer1939 Well... it was not for you to decide Homer! If those criminals had a weapon which they did not then maybe the story would read soemthing else. However John made the right call in less then 2 seconds! Considering your statement, I doubt your brain can process anything that fast!

What??? C'mon Joe & Indy grow up, I seriously doubt either of you have ever been put in a similar position like John was! So give the man a break! The criminals got caught. They will be given a second chance at life after paying their price with the legal system. John has a family too, and they dont need thier father dealing with more then what happen that night!

Pull, aim, ahoot in that order. If you aren't going to do #3 what is the use of doing #1? The next guy might not be smaller than you.
