The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced they have arrested the man they said scammed an elderly woman out of nearly $5,000.

Police said Mark Hoffman turned himself into authorities on Wednesday.  He was arrested on charges of forgery, theft and impersonating a public servant.

Police said Mark Hoffman, 39, went to the home of a 65-year-old woman and identified himself as an employee with the Department of Code Enforcement in late November.  According to the police report, Hoffman presented the woman with paperwork, advising her she had an unlicensed contractor repair her home and she had fines to pay as a result.

Hoffman is scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning. Police said Hoffman is also being held on a separate case with pending charges of forgery, prescription offenses and possession of controlled substances.
