A traffic stop in Shelby County turned into a SWAT incident, after police said the suspect fled from the scene Tuesday morning.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said an officer initiated a traffic stop on I-74 eastbound, near Middletown, around 8:07 a.m.
Once the suspect’s vehicle was stopped, police said one occupant in the vehicle fled on foot while another person stayed inside the car.
Maj. David Tilford with the sheriff’s department told Fox59 he believed the man fled because he was wanted out of Owen and Morgan counties on aggravated battery and resisting arrest.
K-9 units were dispatched to a wooded area near Morristown around 9:56 a.m. The K-9 units successfully apprehended the suspect.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. The suspect will be taken to jail pending his release from the hospital.
