Frankfort police and child protective services were called to Green Meadows Intermediate School on Thursday after taking reports of a verbal and physical altercation between a 3rd grader and substitute gym teacher Steven Royer.
Details of the confrontation are still coming to light. But indications are that Royer was accused of kicking the 3rd grader during gym class. He was arrested there at the school and booked on two counts of battery.
"They had the student in the office, he had a bruised shoulder. The other students were claiming that there were some derogatory remarks made, that the student had been physically abused, possibly kicked," said Frankfort Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Les Blivins.
At his Frankfort home Royer declined to tell his side of the story, but his wife said the kicking allegation was false.
"I just know he didn't kick any kid. And... I think he put a kid back in line and that was it," said Cheryl Royer.

Royer, who spent years as an assistant coach for the Frankfort varsity baseball team had recently been coaching on a volunteer basis, as well as subbing as a gym teacher.
Blivens told Fox59 that Royer had a clean disciplinary record and nothing in his background to raise concern. However, in light of the recent charges, Blivens said that Royer would not be employed by the district in any capacity.
"We've removed him from the substitute list so he's no longer gonna work for us at all, it's really a police matter."
