Ball State says it wants to save students money when it comes to tuition. University leaders announced several ways to help cut down on costs Tuesday.

The number of credit hours needed to graduate is being reduced from 126 to 120. Summer tuition expenses are being dropped by 18 percent. The school is also offering a $500 scholarship to Hoosier students who graduate in four years.

"So what's  important I think for the state and for Ball State is that college be affordable and that students aim for a four-year degree not a six-year degree ," said Jo Ann Gora, BSU President.

One other way the university is trying to cut costs for students is by offering hybrid schedules. Anyone taking 12 credit hours on campus can take up to six additional on-campus or on-line credit hours for free.
