The Indiana University Marching Hundred will perform at one of the most-watched sporting events. The band will be part of the Super Bowl XLVI pregame show.
Drum major Tiffany Galus said the band learned about the news at their annual banquet Monday night.
"I was completely speechless," said Galus. "I literally couldn’t make a sound, I was so excited."
Director Dave Woodley told Fox59 the IU Marching Hundred will not be allowed to attend the Super Bowl football game, only the pregame and halftime shows. The band will hold additional practices in January and February to prepare for the performance.
It is not part of their regular season, so the performance is optional, but most of the 300 students are expected to perform.
"We're performing on the same field that Madonna and some of the best football players in the world will be on," said Max Weinberg, a senior trumpet player. "This is awesome. We get one more opportunity to perform as a group before our seniors leave and the rest of the band goes on in the future."
The Super Bowl will be in Indianapolis at the Lucas Oil Stadium on February 5.
