Case of tuberculosis confirmed at Marion elementary school

Marion Community Schools said they are working to ensure student safety after one elementary student became infected.

A case of tuberculosis has been confirmed at Riverview Elementary School in Marion, Ind.

Marion Community Schools said they are working to ensure student safety after one elementary student became infected.  The school said the student is receiving medical treatment.

The school district said they were alerted by the Grant County Department of Health that there was a suspected case of tuberculosis at the school.  MCS said they are following the guidance of the Grant County and Indiana Department of Health, as well as the Center for Disease Control guidelines.

Tuberculosis is spread by prolonged physical contact according to the Indiana Department of Health. The school said the Indiana and Grant County Department of Health has identified the students who will receive tuberculosis testing.
