Singer Whitney Houston, known as much for her powerful singing as her public battles with drugs, has died Saturday, according to her publicist Karen Foster.
Houston was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey.
The legendary singer, actress and producer won six Grammy awards, two Emmy awards, and 30 Billboard Music Awards across her extensive career.
Despite her battles with drugs, Houston's career was taking a positive turn in the last year, including a recent rumor that she was to be joining the cast of the reality show "X-Factor" on Fox.
She leaves behind a daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.
