CHICAGO (AP) — Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office wants to make sure people understand changes in the state's public records laws.
So her office is putting on free seminars around the state so people can learn more about the changes that go into effect Jan. 1.
Madigan pushed to strengthen the public records laws to prevent abuse by state offices that look for ways to delay or not to comply, something former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's administration routinely did.
The changes include the first-ever fines for Freedom of Information Act violations and enforcement authority for Madigan's office.
To sign up for a seminar, people should call Madigan's office.
Seminars will be held around the state between now and Dec. 11. Locations include Moline, Peoria, Quincy, Chicago and Springfield.
