According to celebrity news site TMZ, who cited law enforcement sources, Amber Portwood was renting a home that was subsidized by Indiana’s Low Income Rental Housing Tax Credit program.
However, Portwood was not qualified to live in subsidized housing, government supported accommodations for people with low incomes, because of her income.
TMZ reported the reality TV star claimed she made approximately $10,000, but she actually earned $280,000 in 2010.
Portwood is currently booked in the Madison County jail. She was arrested in December for felony possession of a controlled substance and violating her probation.
Portwood will remain in custody until she finds out if a judge will allow her into a drug court program. If she completes that program, the drug charges will be dropped. If she fails, Portwood will spend five years behind bars.

Add / View comments | Discussion FAQThe Herald Bulletin has reported that she has been accepted into the drug program (no surprise there). Where are the charges for fraud? She did commit fraud by claiming to only make $10,000 in order to get cheap/free rent. What other government assistance has she been soaking in? She is yesterday's news. Tired of seeing her face. Why not treat her like anyone else that commits the same crimes? She is no one special. All she has done is make herself and the state look like idiots.
She should be arrested and made to pay the state back for ripping them off. Then th person how gave the ok to her for the apartment without checking her out fired.
How many more are doing the same thing and not getting caught.
