Officers injured, suspect killed in shooting near Ball State campus

The shooting happened at Dill Street and University Avenue.

Muncie, Ind.

A suspect was killed and two officers were injured during an incident near the Ball State University campus in Muncie Friday afternoon.

The shooting happened at Dill Street and University Avenue at approximately 2 p.m.  Police said officers were serving a felony arrest warrant near the location, when the suspect fired at police.

Officer Brent Brown was shot in teh shoulder. His vest stopped the bullet. Brown was treated and released.  Officer Steve Baugh suffered a gunshot wound to the face. He was transported to the hospital and at last check was in stable condition.

Police said officers returned fire, wounding the suspect. The suspect later died, according to The Star Press.

The suspect was reportedly believed to have been involved in a store robbery. The suspect's identity is still unknown at this time.

Police said the university community was not threatened.
