The pharmaceutical company Pfizer is recalling approximately 1 million packs of birth control pills in the United States.

The company issued the recall after discovering a problem that could cause women to take an incorrect daily dosage, increasing the risk of accidental pregnancy.  The pills may not contain enough contraceptive needed to prevent pregnancy.

The recall involves Lo/Ovral-28 tablets, as well as a generic version of the birth control pills, 14 lots of Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets.

The company said the problem was identified and corrected, and they have had no reports of any adverse health effects.
