Bloomington High School North athletic director Jen Hollars told a student her version of the national anthem was too much.
The school told Shai Warfield-Cross she can't sing at upcoming game unless she does it in a more traditional way. Administrators say there were complaints after a game against Martinsville that the anthem was disrespectful, unrecognizable and that it was disrespectful to current and former members of the military.
Shay told the Bloomington Herald-Times the situation left her really confused and feeling like she was doing something wrong. Her family is seeking a public apology and a meeting with school officials.
