Water rates are going up in Bloomington. Monday night, city council members approved an increase of 54%.

They say the increase was needed to pay for a $41 million project to expand the city's water treatment plant, as well as to fund plans to add a second line from Lake Monroe to the plant, and bring the water utility costs in line.

This is likely the last meeting on the issue before the plan goes before the Indiana Regulatory Commission for final approval.
