Water is good for you, the environment and for your wallet. However, it is not bottled water, but filtered water from a local company called Bottled Free Indy.
If any place depends on good drinking water, it is the people working up a sweat in a yoga class at Clay Terrace.
The owners of the class said they used to sell bottled water, but economically and environmentally, they said it just did not make sense.
“Every class is heated to at least 95, if not 105 degrees, and it’s a very active yoga,” said Heather Leo, co-owner of the Yoga Center. “So with the movement and the heat together, we produce quite a bit of sweat so from that we do need to rehydrate often.”
So, they contacted Bottle Free Indy. The company delivered a zero waste, in-line filter system for about $19 per month.
Those filling up their water bottles said it tastes great and makes them feel good.
“I always feel very guilty about that and I have now taken the water bottles out of my house,” said John Jarrett. “I will use recyclable water from here on.”
Jessica Larson provides the system from Bottle Free Indy.
“The way that it works is we're able to come in and tie in to an existing water line and provide a great water service with no plastic bottles,” said Larson. “The typical cost is $19 a month, depending on how many people use it. The taste is good, plus, you don't have to wait for a delivery vehicle. It’s far less than bottled water, and it filters out impurities.
“We filter out Chlorine, Chloramines, volatile organic compounds which would include gasoline, solvents, industrial and household cleaners, basically these things fall into a category that’s considered an allowable limit by the EPA.”
It is not just for businesses. Many are using the system for their office or home.
“Our goal is to make Indianapolis bottle-free, free from the unsustainable model of delivering bottled water and free from the plastic waste of disposable water bottles,” said the owners of Bottle Free Indy.
