Original Story

Carmel parents reacted quickly to a case that sounds familiar in many school districts.

Twenty-two-year-old David Black was a paid volunteer, hired by Carmel High School's band booster group. According to investigators, the case began in August after a student who was 14 years old at the time, claimed Black was the father of her child. Another Carmel staff member confronted Black about the rumors and he reportedly admitted to having sex with the student.

Marion County Prosecutors say the incident is not a typical "he said, she said" case because the Carmel Police Department was able to obtain text messages and pictures from Black's computer that verified the relationship. Black will be tried in Marion County because the alleged criminal acts took place in Indianapolis.

Carmel parents say the case serves as yet another reminder of why they need to raise awareness among their children, even if it means talking about things they would rather leave unsaid.
