The four-year-old Russian Blue cat is now in the care of the Humane Society of Indianapolis. He was found by volunteers of local cat-advocacy IndyFeral, who brought him to the humane society for life-saving medical care.
We're told "Big Bob" is doing well after having surgery. His leg had a significant fracture and a shrapnel was embedded in his thigh. Due to the severity of his injuries, the leg had to be amputated in order to save his life. He's currently being monitored by the shelter's veterinary staff.
"Around the holidays, it's especially abhorrent that someone would shoot a cat and leave it to die," said John Aleshire, CEO of the Humane Society of Indianapolis. "IndyHumane and IndyFeral were fortunate to have found the cat in time to save its life. We're especially thankful to our donors for their support - without them, we wouldn't be able to save animals like Big Bob."
In addition to finding a loving home for Big Bob, the Humane Society of Indianapolis is also looking for donations to cover the cat's medical care.
Donations to assist with Big Bob's care can be made in person at the shelter, 7929 North Michigan Road in Indianapolis. You can also donate online, or by calling 317-872-5650 ext. 125.
The shelter doesn't put animals down because of space or time and will make Big Bob available for adoption after he recovers.
