The Hit show "Glee" is giving back to Hoosier students. The show's "Give a Note" campaign has awarded money to schools across the country to help their music programs thrive, including four schools in Indiana.
Ben Davis High School learned they had won first prize and $25,000 Thursday.
"The bond that we share is definitely one of a kind," said Kenyari Keith, 17, a Ben Davis high school senior and choir member.
"It's about being a part of a program bigger than yourself," said Darian White, 17, another member of the choir.
"We struggle to just make ends meet, and it's really hard, but show choir takes me through it," said Osvaldo Gil, 17.
Keith created and submitted a video to the "Give a Note" campaign with the help of the choir. The campaign recieved nearly 500 submittals. Still, Ben Davis got great news.
"It takes more than talent sometimes. It takes a little bit of funding, and that's an area where some of our kids really struggle," said Hersel Cremeans, Ben Davis High School Head Choir Director.
Cremeans said he wants to put most of the money in a savings account and watch it grow. The remaining dollars would help teens at Ben Davis stay involved today and get others involved by helping with fees.
"For the kids that struggle, it gives them a place to call home, and it makes them want to come to school and makes them want to graduate. I can't tell you how many times a kid has thanked me for giving them a place to go," said Cremeans.
He was talking about a place to go where the teens can dream, get inspired, create lasting bonds and beautiful music.
"To be able to touch someone and to move someone through a song is, I think, the greatest thing you can do," said White.
Arsenal Tech, Kokomo High School and Lewis Cass Junior and Senior High School were each awarded $10,000, a second place prize.
