INDIANAPOLIS —
Lincoln Plowman, the Franklin Township Councilman who this week was placed on administrative leave from his duties as a Metro Police Major, is still on the job representing Marion County's 25th District.Local Democrats say the Republican councilman should step down.
"I think everybody has a right to trial and everybody has a right to their side of the story, but the Republicans always say our people must resign so I think (Plowman) must resign," Marion County Democratic party leader Ed Treacy said.
The Republican president of the City-County Council, Ryan Vaughn, says as far as he knows his colleague has done nothing wrong.
"I don't live in Franklin Township but he has been consistently re elected by overwhelming margins so they are obviously happy with his service. As far as working with him on the council he has been reasonable and a good colleague to work with."
Sources are telling FOX 59 News Councilman Plowman's administrative leave is part of a bigger investigation that is focusing on alleged abuse of power by Marion County politicians.
Indianapolis attorney Jim Voyles said Thursday he has represented the Councilman before and continues to now.
Voyles would not comment on Plowman's paid leave from IMPD
Marion County's Director of Public Safety, Frank Straub, has confirmed Plowman is off the job pending an internal investigation.

PREVIOUS STORY:
A statement by Public Safety Director Dr. Frank Straub confirms Plowman, who represents Franklin Township on the City-County Council, is on administrative leave pending outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
A spokesman for the FBI, Agent Brian Northern, told Fox 59 News that the bureau could "neither confirm nor deny existence of a federal probe."
Plowman was a longtime Marion County Sheriff's Deputy rising to the rank of major and deputy jail commander under former Sheriff Jack Cottey.
Following consolidation of the sheriff's department and IPD, Plowman was a major and the number two ranking officer in the investigations division.
Last year he was reassigned to traffic, reserves and parks rangers. He was recently assigned to a position in the administrative division.
