Michael Foods, Inc. is issuing a recall of their eggs sold in 34 states, including Indiana.
The company is recalling their hard-cooked eggs in brine because of the possibility it may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people and those with weak immune systems.
The recalled eggs were purchased by food distributors, who may have used them in products that were sold to retail outlets or used in restaurants. The contaminated products are the hard-cooked eggs in brine sold in 10-and 25-pound pails produced in Wakefield, Nebraska. The company said the eggs could be labeled under six brand names; Columbia Valley Farms, GFS, Glenview Farms, Papetti’s, Silverbrook, and Wholesome Farms.
The pails the eggs were sold in will have lot codes of 1 LOT 1350W through 1 LOT 2025W and have expiration dates from January 30, 2012 to March 10, 2012. The company stressed the lot codes preceded by a “1” and ending in a “W” are affected.
The company said none of the eggs were sold directly to retailers or consumers. Michael Foods said they are working with their customers to ensure the products are removed.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to the products at this time, reported the company.
