INDIANAPOLIS, IN—
A massive one-day volunteer effort is planned to bring change to an Eastside Indianapolis neighborhood. More than 1,000 volunteers are being recruited to give St. Clair Place a makeover.Global Peace Initiatives is joining forces with Group Cares and 1 By Youth to clean up, fix up and spruce up the St. Clair Place neighborhood this spring. The director of Global Peace Initiatives, Linda Proffitt is excited.
"On May 1st when 1 By Youth takes place, we really hope to brighten peoples life and instill hope. We believe that by being kind and generous we are people of peace. I think when people start to see what happens in this community they'll be looking forward to the next time."
The plan calls for volunteers from churches and schools to provide free labor for one day. Volunteers will paint houses, provide home repairs, landscaping the whole neighborhood, clean alleys, tend city parks, clean up illegal dumping on vacant lots and even clean up a city park. The goal is to transform the spirit in the neighborhood from despair to hope.
