Family and friends mourn the death of a Greenwood homecoming queen, after police say her fiancé shot and killed her over the weekend.

Kelly Roome, 19, had just moved to California about a month ago to live with her fiancé, 21-year-old Ian York. He was stationed at Beale Air Force Base where he worked in security.

"I don't think she ever feared that her life was in danger at anytime." Dan Roome, Victim's father.

But Roome's father says she told him York was suicidal and she wasn't ready to get married. She was planning to move back to Greenwood, but her flight last Saturday was delayed.

Detectives say York shot and killed Roome on July Fourth. They were having a get together at their apartment when they got into an argument. Reports say they argued after Roome hugged another man earlier in the night.

"He even called and talked to her mother after killing her. He called and talked to her and told her he was sorry and that Kelly was the best person in the world." Roome Said.

The York Family is full of questions. His sister, Tabitha, said, "It's not him. Everybody is making him out to be some monster and he's not. He's not like that all."

They say York never spoke about any problems between himself and Roome. But after the shooting, his mother says her son called her as police officers were on his trail. She told him to surrender. But detectives say there was a shoot out and Ian died in the shooting.

" The next thing I hear is the cops yelling at him and I couldn't even understand what they were yelling and then right after they got done yelling and then I heard the shots and then it was dead silence," York said.

York's mother says she didn't hear her son fire a gun shot.
