A mass transit plan for Central Indiana is getting new life, after stalling in the Indiana Statehouse.
Leaders of the Central Indiana Transit Task Force sent a letter to the Indianapolis Star saying they'll spend the year trying to help taxpayers and legislators understand the issue.
The group wants voters to let municipalities raise a local-option income tax. The move would generate about $1.3 billion dollars to connect Central Indiana communities.
Some businesses welcome the proposal.
"More walk-in clientele definitely. Easier access for people to get here, it's not a 20 minute drive across town so more walk-in business which is always good," said Teri Moss, Silver Moon Hair studio.
Supporters believe mass transit needs to be a collaborative model for the state and said private money could be the key to moving forward.
