The H1N1 virus has hit the kindergarten classrooms at East Side Elementary School in the town of Edinburgh.

Several students have been diagnosed with the H1N1 virus. The Edinburgh Community Schools Superintendent Richard Arkanoff consulted with the Johnson County Health Department and decided to shut down kindergarten classes until Wednesday.

Arkanoff said, "The two of us decided that we'd go ahead just shut down the kindergarten just to be on the safe side."

East Side Elementary has 70 kindergarten students. Some parents of kindergarten students suspected the flu was passing through the school last week.

Samantha Morrison said, "There were a lot of kindergarteners that were out on Friday. His class had 6 kids that were out and I know tow kids were in his class were tested positive."

The Centers for Disease Control no longer recommends closings schools to stop the spread of the virus. It now urges parents to keep sick kids home and away from healthy people. School closures or dismissals should be made locally and on a school by school basis.
