Police are releasing few details about the death of man found inside an apartment on east side Thursday night. The death investigation is being treated as a homicide. An IMPD spokesperson says they are waiting on the results of an autopsy in order to identify the body of the 59-year-old caucasian male.

Friday, police tape was still attached to a wooden gate out in front of the building in historic Woodruff Place. Investigators are currently looking over the evidence they've collected at the scene.

"I saw it on the news last night and as soon as they showed the house... (pause) I painted the house.

Friend Mike Shinn told Fox59 News he is still trying to make sense of what happened inside the home on Woodruff Place East Drive. He says, John Butsch was a great guy, a talented music director and noteworthy composer.

"He's a little eccentric but you get that with geniuses and that's what he was. I just don't understand why anybody would do this to him.
he befriended everybody,"said Mike.

IMPD was called to the address Thursday night after the man who rents part of the home from Butsch called about something suspicious. The front door, beside his, was open. Inside, officers found human remains.

We knocked on the renter's door Friday afternoon but no one was home.

"It's unnerving, naturally. It would be for anyone in any neighborhood," said resident Ron Lyons.

Neighbors say there has been some crime in the area but nothing like this.

"Hopefully we'll find out what happened and assure the neighborhood it's safe," said another neighbor, Cliff Bradley.

"I just don't understand. I'm just shocked. I don't know who would do it. I'm at a loss here," said Mike.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the person inside.
