Caregivers brave elements to help homebound Hoosiers

The winter storm brought problems for Hoosiers who rely on caregivers but many of those caregivers braved the elements to help homebound residents.

Mary Hoffer is one of many Hoosiers who get help with daily chores and errands.

She uses a service called Senior Helpers.

Agency caregivers worked long shifts during the week to make sure all of their clients were safe and sound.

“I’m stuck in here, there’s just no way I can get out,” Hoffer said.

Jacqui Deboard wasn’t able to make it out to residents the morning after the first round of ice but she said she was there every day after that.

"More than anything its especially important for me to be able to here for her to do the things that she can’t do for herself,” Deboard said.

Hoffer and Deboard both said the work relationship is a positive in their lives.
