The latest effort to ban gay marriage and move it towards a constitutional amendment in Indiana could be up for a vote Monday. A similar ban passed in 2005 but lost momentum when Democrats took control of the Statehouse.

This year, Republicans control both the House and Senate, so passage is more likely. If it does pass, it would only be the first step toward amending the state constitution. It would have to pass the legislature again in 2013 and 2014. Then, it would have to pass a statewide referendum.
