Journalists and building workers rallied outside the Indianapolis Star office building around noon Wednesday.

The workers assembled to call attention to staff cutbacks, wage reductions, outsourcing and what they call corporate greed.

The Indianapolis Newspaper Guild said the cuts come even after the Indianapolis Star remains profitable and executives collect bonuses.

Workers rallied around noon while contract negotiations resumed between the Indianapolis Newspaper Guild and representatives of Gannett, the newspaper’s parent company.

Workers said Gannett aims to continue a wage freeze, maintain 10 percent wage cuts enacted two years ago and outsource jobs to Kentucky.

The Indianapolis Newspaper Guild seeks to restore the 10 percent pay cuts, an annual cost of living increase and to keep newsroom jobs from being shipped out of state.
