Indiana University students and their families know how much tuition rates will likely increase for the next two academic years.
President Michael McRobbie is recommending a 4.6% increase for the 2009-2010 academic year and 4.8% increase for the 2010-2011 academic year for in-state undergraduate students at IU Bloomington and IUPUI.

McRobbie says the tuition hikes are necessary to help offset rising costs and prepare for the possibility of a $29 million state funding shortfall in two years.
IU leaders say the average Hoosier family sending a student to the university will likely see their bill go down over the next two years thanks to a 30% increase in financial aid. They estimate the decrease in tuition payments for resident in-state students will be $177 dollars a year. 68% of students enrolled at IU for the next academic year have been approved for some type of financial aid.
Students who didn't see financial aid or qualify can expect to shell out about $382 dollars more.
