Like everything else downtown, IUPUI will feel the impact of the Super Bowl.
The AFC champion team will stay on campus and school officials expect it will become packed with fans. Given those crowds, school officials will ask faculty members to consider holding classes off-site, if at all, on the Friday before the game and the Monday after it.
That's welcome news for students for many students.
"I feel like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience a mass of people downtown and seeing tourists cause it’s not something we get every day," said Lauren O’Dell, student.
In addition, IUPUI will capitalize on its location by offering parking the weekend before and during Super Bowl weekend itself. We're talking 4,000 spaces in all.
"We want them to come to Indianapolis, we want them to love it and right now it’s so important to our students . It should work well for our campus, our employees and our guests," said Amy Conrad Warner, IUPUI Spokesperson.
It will cost $25 per space to park in the IUPUI lots. The school will also offer shuttle service to Super Bowl activities every half hour.
School officials expect the campus will be humming with activity and so they don't want students to worry about driving to class.
“It's really central for us, to our students, to come and go with as little hassle as possible. We've got a shuttle running, we've got to be smart and thoughtful."
