A Lafayette woman is facing a terroristic mischief charge after she mailed a suspicious package to a government building, according to police.
Lisa Bell, 43, is accused of sending a suspicious package to the Indiana Department of Work Force Development on Dec. 30. The package had a letter that said the package contained an undisclosed and contagious virus. The incident resulted in the evacuation of nearly 30 state employees.
Investigators were able to determine the package did not contain a threat.
Police worked with the U.S. Postal Inspectors Office and said they found evidence that linked Bell to the letter and the package.
Bell faces a charge of Terroristic Mischief, a class C felony. If convicted, Bell faces 2-8 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
