Mom who claimed aliens possessed her, smothered son sentenced to 6 years

A Lafayette mother was sentenced to six years in prison after she pleaded guilty to lying on top of her 3-year-old son.

Senora Wheeler, 25, said aliens took control of her soul and body after police found her along with her two daughters, her son and her niece under a pine tree back in 2009.

Officers found Wheeler's son underneath her. The boy suffered severe brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. Because of the incident, the now 5-year-old boy must use a ventilator to breathe and has limited mental capacity.

Wheeler pleaded guilty but mentally ill to neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury last month. As part of her plea agreement, Wheeler will also be subject to two years of supervised probation. She must also seek psychological treatment.


Wheeler has schizophrenia and disassociative identity disorder. Additional charges of attempted murder and battery on law enforcement were dropped under the plea agreement.

The boy's father now has sole custody of the him. The couple's other children are now under the care of other relatives.
