Several accidents closed lanes on major highways in the Metro area all day Monday.

Several vehicles were involved in an accident on the south side at Interstate 465 near the Mann Road exit, closing all I-465 eastbound lanes. Approximately 12 vehicles were involved. Several people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The lanes reopened several hours later as crews worked to clear the wreckage.

All Interstate 70 eastbound lanes at Harding Street were also closed due to a multi-vehicle accident, but later reopened.  However, another accident closed all eastbound lanes soon after.

Additionally, the right two lanes of westbound I-465 wereclosed at Interstate 65 on the city's south side but reopened around 1:40 p.m.

About 74 Indy Snow Force drivers salted the main roads and secondary streets throughout Marion County.  The drivers will remain on the roads throughout the evening hours until 37 Indy Snow Force workers begin their shift at 11 p.m. Snow Force will remain on the streets through Tuesday’s morning rush hour.

Harry Maginity with the Indianapolis Department of Transportation said workers did not pre-treat the roadways because there was a lot of brine still left on the road.

Indiana State Police said there were more than 80 crashes and slide offs in the Metro area and that number is expected to rise. Police said conditions are the worst on the south side. ISP said there were minor injuries but no serious injuries.
