Muncie police are at the center of an investigation that calls into question the trust between police and the public.
The most recent claims of abuse date back to 2008 and involve the actions of a multi county drug task force.
These accusations first came to light in the Sunday edition of Muncie's newspaper. The Human Rights Commission in Delaware County says lately there has been a marked increase in police abuse complaints.
According to the Muncie Star Press federal and state investigators are asking questions about the actions of officers assigned to work for the Muncie-Delaware County drug task force and the group in 2008 also included departments from Madison County.
Yvonne Doyle Executive Director of Muncie's Human Rights office says what's been high are the number of complaints about police abuse of power including brutality which is about 2 to 3 complaints a month.
The Muncie Star Press reports drug task force members, in August of 2008 allegedly held down and held a gun to the head of a woman who had committed no crime and later the officers were accused of harassing potential drug informants by leaving them in deserted areas with no means of transportation or communication.
Yvonne Doyle is encouraging the mayor and police chief to sign off on a police citizens review board.
