Ind. senator seeks to set standards on how national anthem is sang

The bill seeks to fine individuals $25 if intentional changes are made to the song.

An Indiana lawmaker has introduced a bill, proposing Indiana set standards for how the national anthem is sang in schools.
   
Republican state Senator Vaneta Becker of Evansville calls for the Indiana Department of Education to implement specific "performance standards" for the way the anthem is sang and played at any event sponsored by public schools and state universities.

The bill seeks to fine individuals $25 if intentional changes are made to the song.

The bill’s fate will be determined by the Indiana Department of Education, with input from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
   
The senator said the change is all about being respectful to our national anthem.
