The woman elected to become Galveston’s new clerk-treasurer was charged Wednesday for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident on September 2.

Christine Lewis, 45, is charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.

Lewis is accused of hitting 21-year-old Trey McCulley.  Police said McCulley was walking on State Road 218 the night he was struck.  His leg was broken as a result of the accident.

After the accident, Lewis called authorities to report damage to her car.  Police said Lewis told them she knew she hit something but did not see what it was.  She also reported to police she did not see the damage until the next day.
