President Obama rejected a bid to expand the controversial Keystone Oil Sands Pipeline Wednesday. It's the proposed pipeline that would send crude oil flowing from Canada to the Gulf Coast.
President Obama rejected the proposal, saying the deadline imposed by Congress didn't provide enough time for a necessary review. House Republicans had given the White House 60 days to make a decision.
The pipeline has become a political lightening rod. Republicans say it would create jobs, opponents say it would increase the country's reliance on crude oil.
Indiana's longtime Senator Richard Lugar said he'll still fight for the pipeline despite the rejection.
The Republican said "President Obama has sided with extreme environmentalists who are fundamentally opposed to the use of oil and are playing politics with vital American and Hoosier jobs."
