It's been almost a month since the robbery inside a corner store in Fountain Square. The suspect, Michael Inman, is facing murder charges for the death of 55 year-old David Pedigo.

Pedigo inherited the business from his father. Now the fate of this family owned jewelry store is all but clear with a "closed" sign on the window and a message on the answering machine.

"Won't one of his children open up? That's what they usually do," said nearby business owner Joe Cox.

Pedigo Jewelry opened in Fountain Square in 1946. It appears as though Pedigo's family will not reopen, ending the long run in this east side community. His customers, like Carmel Roseberry, are already feeling the loss.

"Ever since I've  been on the south side, 29 years, he would clean it or cut down my watch band, battery, anything I needed," said Roseberry.

It's not just the customer. Down the street, at Joe's Cycles, Joe Cox said he lost a mentor and a friend.

"It's something I think about every time coming to work going past his building," he told Fox59 News.

Joe's thoughts go to the whole business community which is finally showing signs of shrugging off the effects of the recession. Now it's coming to grips with one more shuttered storefront.

"When you lose someone like that, the impact isn't felt immediately, it's felt day after day, because Dave filled such a big void."

Pedigo Jewelers had been in business for 60 years. Customers have two chances to claim their merchandise: Saturday 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and on May 22nd, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. All claims must come with a receipt and photo ID.
