It happened around 9:15 p.m. in the 1800 block of East Riverside Drive.
When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived to the home, they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the chest and another man suffering from a gunshot wound to his foot.
The man shot in the chest was later identified as 26-year-old Kenneth Reed. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The second male was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in stable condition.
According to police, Reed may have attempted to either rob or carjack the man shot in the foot. Police said as the victim arrived home, he was confronted by Reed who was armed with a weapon.
Investigators believe the victim was carrying a gun as well and pulled it out as a physical altercation ensued. Police said several shots were fired and both of them were struck.
An autopsy for Reed will be performed by the Marion County Coroner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
