A 33-year-old Connersville man is dead after a relatively low-speed police pursuit through two eastern Indiana counties. The pursuit resulted in a shootout with a state trooper

Ryan Pruet was behind the wheel of a vehicle that an Indiana State Trooper followed from northwest Fayette County into eastern Henry County. On U.S. 40 near Bentonville Road, police say Pruet exited his car and fired two shots at officers. More than one officer fired back and Pruet died at the scene.

Witnesses told Fox 59 News that Pruet had been shooting pool and drinking beer in the Moose Lodge in downtown Connersville in the hours before the shooting but did not seem erratic. Those who know Pruet describe him as quiet and unassuming, and Connersville police say that while he was known to them, none of his crimes involved violence or a weapon or resisting police.

Greenfield Police told Fox 59 News they will compare Pruet's 2007 mugshot with surveillance video shot of an armed robber of a CVS Pharmacy Thursday night. That robber claimed to have a gun in his pocket as he stole painkillers.
