A proposed road project's causing controversy. Neighbors on the north side of Indianapolis are angry saying the project will cut into their properties and make driving more dangerous.
The plan calls for the construction of a roundabout at the very busy intersection at 96th Street and Township Line Road, right on the Hamilton and Marion County borders.
The corner is extremely busy and morning and afternoon rush hours are the worst.
Hamilton County wants to make things easier but Marion County residents say the proposal will make their lives worse.
"I think we realize there's a lot traffic and it builds up at particular times of the day something needs to be done."
That's why the Hamilton County Highway Department thinks this would be the perfect location for a roundabout that is similar to the one down the road at 96th Street and Spring Mill Road. That's where a continuous flow of traffic monitored only by yield signs and a driver's skill and quick judgment.
"Hamilton County wants to take this corner and it looks like they want to do it the easiest way possible, they want to take the majority of it right there from our corner."
It's these stakes that really have the residents worried because they mark the parameters of the 2.8 acre three million dollar project.
"Those stakes are awfully close to this building right here, this is not my building buts its my neighbor's building and as you can see some of the stakes are just right up against it, 25-30 feet from the front door."
"We're gonna lose so many of our mature trees as you can see just feels like they're taking a bigger chunk of Marion County than Hamilton County for a Hamilton County project."
