According to Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell a chain reaction accident on southbound I-65 resulted in the death of one man.

Campbell stated that at 5:20 am a semi-tractor rolled over on southbound I-65 at mile marker 144 just north of the Lebanon exit.

In the resulting back-up, a second semi rear-ended a third semi. The second semi caught fire killing the driver.

"We had one semi tractor trailer rear end another one that semi burst into flames," Campbell said.

Other drivers who witnessed the accident said they tried to get out and help the driver, but the fire trapped him inside his cab.

"Me and about four other guys tried to get him out, but we couldn't," said driver John Jajuga.

Investigators believe fatigue may have been a factor. Witnesses said they saw the driver swerve shortly before hitting the other semi.
