State of IndyCar event kicks off 2012 season Monday
Race fans are excited for the 2012 IndyCar Series
Indianapolis, Ind.
There is heightened interest this year following the tragedy in Las Vegas last season that killed driver Dan Wheldon.
The meeting at the Hilbert Circle Theatre will address the direction IndyCar is heading, discuss the new engines, the chassis designed to make the sport safer, the new scaled down rule book from new race director, Beaux Barfield, and about some of the exciting things happening this year, including four races that will take the series out of the U.S. to Canada, Brazil and China.
Izod IndyCar Series CEO Randy Bernard said he is excited about the new season and the challenges ahead.
"How do we work together to make changes in our sport that aren`t about competition, but about entertainment and making everyone a part of it,” said Bernard. “My job is to make sure that we`re looking at not just this year, but three, four, five years down the road."
Do not miss Fox59’s exclusive, 1-on-1 interview with Randy Bernard Monday on FOX59 News at 10 p.m. It is the first time since the crash that killed driver Dan Wheldon that Bernard talks about the blame being put on him, how he is responding and how the sport will change forever.
Fans are invited to attend the State of IndyCar Presentation & 2011 Awards Recognition at Hilbert Circle Theatre.
Doors will open to the public shortly before 5:30 p.m. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
The presentation will be streamed online and translated in up to 50 languages.

@neon18: What on Earth are you talking about? Who are these victims claiming victory? What is shameless? If you are suugesting for one moment that Dan Wheldon would not have wanted IndyCar racing to continue on in 2012, better than ever, you have no idea what makes racing drivers tick. They know full well that any time they get in that car could be their last. The new, safer car they will be using this year, which Dan did much of the testing on, has been named in his honor, the DW12.
Life is short, we always need passion!

It is amazing how after a public tragedy, where two children are left fatherless...so many "victims" are claiming victory.
Shameless. IMHO
