For visitors flying in for Super Bowl XLVI, the Indianapolis International Airport will be their first impression of the Circle City, and airport workers have been working hard to make sure it is a positive and lasting one.
The airport has been working for two years on their plans on what to do and how to handle the extra travelers who are coming in for the big game.
The airport expects to see an additional 40,000 commercial air travelers throughout the week with Thursday and Friday being the two busiest days.
The airport said they are doing several things behind the scenes to make sure those traveling through the airport are safe and have an enjoyable experience while they are here.
There are extra police patrols and paramedics on hand. They have also added Super Bowl signage, music performances, the Indy 500 Super Cars and plenty of Super Bowl retail items.
The Super Bowl is also a very big event for general aviation. More than 600 private aircraft are expected to fly in and out of Indy.
So, what does it cost if you came to Indianapolis for three days for the Super Bowl?
According to Seat Geek, a non-stop flight to Indianapolis from New York is $1,838. From Boston, travelers paid approximately $741.
A three-night's stay at the Residence Inn downtown this weekend costs $4,500.
If you want attend a posh party like the Rolling Stone or the Maxim party, attendees will pay between $750 and $1,800 bucks.
Those prices do not even factor in food and incidental costs of about $800 and your premium ticket for the game which is priced at nearly $11,000.
