It is a tragedy in any language. 15-year old dawn boozer-carter died Thursday night after weeks of clinging to life.On Saturday, May 22nd near 56th and Emerson Dawn and her mother Tina Boozer-Carter were out raising money for Dawn's basketball team at the Indiana School for the Deaf when police say 43-year old Derek Dewitt swerved into the median to hit them. Both Dawn and her mother suffered injuries and after weeks of treatment Tina's condition improved, but Dawn was lost.
Just days after the crash Derek Dewitt told Fox 59 News he suffers from schizophrenia and hadn't taken his medication. But according to Boozer-Carter and her attorney Dewitt had been in trouble with the law before in Georgia.
For now all Tina Boozer-Carter and her family can do is grieve the loss of their loved one taken too soon.
Dewitt faces charges of attempted murder, criminal recklessness and battery, but new charges could be added.
Funeral arrangements for Dawn are pending.
