Three Central Indiana hospital networks are joining the fight against cancer in a big way.
St. Francis, St. Vincent and Community Health will be providing cancer tissue samples for the Cancer Genome Atlas Project. The samples will enable scientists to create blueprints of different cancers.
They hope the work will give them a very specific molecular road map to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
"New discoveries and their applications will mean better quality of life and better outcomes for patients. Not only here in Central Indiana, but around the world," said Dr. Christopher Doehring, St. Francis Health.
The multi-million dollar Cancer Genome Atlas Project is being conducted by the National Institutes of Health.
