The Indiana State Board of Health Lab will work to identify a white powdery substance that was mailed to an Indiana senator.

The Indianapolis Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team was dispatched to the office of Senator Dan Coats Tuesday. An unknown white powdery substance was found inside an envelope mailed to the office.

Field testing ruled the substance negative for hazardous materials.

The substance was collected and transported to the Indiana State Board of Health Lab shortly after the field testing was complete. It is not clear how long the lab will take to identify the unknown substance.
